NASPAG is a proud member of the Women First Research Coalition.

The Coalition includes representative from organizations such as ACOG, ABOG, ASRM and SFP.  Together, this group works together to  raise awareness with federal policymakers, executive branch officials, and the public about the need for sustained and strengthened investment in women’s health research, the prioritization of research in conditions that are specific to women or those conditions that may present differently in women than men, to advance an equitable and appropriate investment in women’s health research that improves the health outcomes of women, and ensure an adequate women’s research workforce.

Here are some key aspects of the coalition:

  • Advocacy for Women's Health Research: The WFRC advocates for increased federal investment specifically in research related to women's health, including conditions that are unique to women or that present differently in women compared to men. Their goal is to improve health outcomes for women by prioritizing these areas in research funding and policy.
  • Lobbying Efforts: The coalition has been involved in lobbying activities to influence policy, particularly around funding for women's health research. For instance, in 2020, they spent $40,000 on lobbying efforts. Their lobbying focuses on issues like NIH funding for women's health.
  • Broad Coalition: The WFRC works with various stakeholders, including federal policymakers, executive branch officials, and the public to raise awareness and push for policy changes. They aim to ensure sustained and strengthened investment in women's health research, advocating for an adequate research workforce in this field.
  • Public Engagement: They have engaged in public activities like virtual briefings to discuss research needs and disparities in women’s health, highlighting the importance of addressing these issues through research.

WFRC recognized the importance of having NASPAG to represent Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology and made sure that we were part of these important discussions.  NASPAG has been a member since 2022.  A NASPAG representative attends monthly meetings, edits documents to make sure language is inclusive to AYA in particular, educates our lobbyists and other MD members about how these issues affect our pediatric/adolescent patients (endometriosis, fertility preservation).  The group has attached value to "coupling" organizations to demonstrate how research can be collaborative across sub-specialties.

In summary, the Women First Research Coalition is dedicated to enhancing the scope and quality of research into women's health at all ages by advocating for policy and funding changes at the federal level. NASPAG values this partnership. For addition information see their website below:
